Veterans - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the pre-requisites for enrolling in a bootcamp?
IT Boot Camps are not for "newbies". Typically, you must have at least one year hands on experience in the discipline you are seeking certification in, to enroll in a Boot Camp.

Will my GI Bill Benefits and the CompTEC Veterans grant pay for the registration fees, tuitions, books, materials and lab fees?
Yes, your training program is fully funded if you are MGIB eligible veteran. (Chapter 30, 31, 35 and now qualified 1607s)

Who pays for my exam fees?
Candidates must pay for each exam as they take them, however, the Veterans Administration will reimburse you for each exam you take (up to two attempts for each exam) and CompTEC will even file the paperwork for you.

Can I get a short term loan, with no prepayment penalty, to pay my tuition until the VA sends me my reimbursement check?
Yes. See http://www.comptec.com/services-financial.aspx also see http://www.veteranstoday.com/article1172.html

What skill level do I need to enroll in a Boot Camp Training program?
You must have used the product you wish to be certified on for at least one year before you can enroll in the boot camp format training programs. i.e. MCSE boot camp candidates must have 1 year experience actively administering Active Directory. CCNA/CCNP boot camp candidates must have at least one year hands on experience on Cisco equipment. Entry level students are accepted in our regularly scheduled non-boot camp classes.

If I do not have veterans benefits can I still attend classes?
Yes, the majority of individuals who attend these classes are non MGIB eligible candidates who have arranged alternate funding for their tuition see http://www.comptec.com/services-financial.aspx

What do I need to bring with me?
We ask that you bring enough clothes for the duration of your bootcamp. We don't do laundry and we don't want you worrying about it either. The air conditioners in our buildings work well. You may want to bring a light sweater.

If I am "entry level" in the computer career field can I attend a Boot Camp Training Program at CompTEC?
No. Boot Camps are only for experienced professionals. There is a huge amount of information delivered in a very short amount of time, that has been overwhelming for "newbies".

Are there non boot camp programs I can attend with my MGIB Benefits and the CompTEC Veterans Grant?
Yes, if you can reside within driving distance of the school for the duration of your program (typically 2-6 months), you can attend any of our regularly scheduled programs using your MGIB benefits and the CompTEC Veterans Grant.

Additionally, Groups of eight or more can be trained anywhere in the country.

Does the child of a veteran who is deceased or disabled qualify for the fully funded program?
Oftentimes the child of a veteran who is deceased or disabled does qualify for the fully funded program.

Do I have to come to West Palm Beach, Fl to receive training?
We can schedule classes in other locations for groups of eight or more.

How do I know if I am eligible?
Qualified candidates must have a current eligibility for Montgomery GI Bill benefits under chapter 30, 31, 35 and now, chapter 1607

How does the payment work?
MGIB eligible candidates will be required to pre pay 60% of the published tuition (that is the amount equal to what the VA will reimburse you) We will continue to issue a grant for the remaining 40%, so your final out of pocket expenses for tuition, after being reimbursed by the VA, is still zero. It typically takes the VA 8 - 12 weeks to issue the reimbursement. Some veterans will need to arrange a short term loan or use a credit card to fund their tuition.
